Marc Manning
20+ years in heavy duty vehicle engineering
Sr. Program Manager at Jacobs
Chief Engineer (Bus) for Los Angeles Metro & Chicago Transit Authority (led ZEB Programs)
Asst. Chief Engineer at Cummins, Inc.
Marc is a founding partner of ZET Partners LLC. Marc has worked in the transportation sector for 20 years as a consultant, public transit fleet engineering and acquisition lead, and product development manager at a Tier 1 automotive supplier.
In the past 10 years, he has planned, designed, and deployed solutions to zero emission transportation. He led the zero emission bus programs for the 2nd and 3rd largest US transit bus fleets. He advised the US’s largest fleets on their path to zero emission vehicles which includes 5 of the 10 largest US transit bus fleets, 2 of the 5 largest US school districts, and the 2nd busiest port in the US.
Currently, Marc serves as CEO of Kodiak Technologies, Inc (KT). KT is a “green” powertrain version of the Kodiak America snow removal equipment that is utilized by airports, Department of Transportation, national parks, and ski resorts. KT provides plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell powertrain solutions. Prior to serving as CEO, Marc was the vehicle architect for KT.
Prior to his current role, Marc was the Senior Program Manager for Jacobs Solutions (the #1 Design Firm per ENR). He helped start Jacobs Transportation Decarbonization practice. During his time, he identified, developed, and/or delivered up to ~$88M in Zero Emission Engineering Services. He won over $150M in grants for his clients. These services supported markets such as transit, ports, airports, and schools. As part of these offerings, he helped plan and deploy zero emission vehicles and their associated infrastructure; and he was pivotal selling and delivering Jacobs’ first fleet charging infrastructure design build.
Prior to Jacobs, Marc led transit bus engineering and acquisition at Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and Los Angeles Metro (LA Metro) with fleets of over 1800 and 2400 buses respectively. His team led the procurement of over $1 billion in transit buses with electric, CNG, and diesel powertrains. His teams were responsible for engineering and warranty support for the life of the buses. Marc was responsible for developing the short- and long-term strategies to deploy zero-emissions buses for these agencies. He participated in various committees to study, advance, and accelerate the adoption of zero-emissions buses globally. He contributed to developing the APTA Bus Procurement Guidelines, supported various TRCP projects, and SAE Charging standard (SAE3105).
Prior to working for public transit agencies, Marc worked in product development for the world’s largest independent diesel engine manufacturer, Cummins Inc. He worked across a wide array of engineering functions (including manufacturing, product development, and service support) with a specialty in combustion, performance, and emissions development. In these functions, he worked on off-highway versions of 3.3L – 8.9L engines and provided dedicated support to Komatsu (#1 off-highway customer) while living in Japan for 3 years. In his final role at Cummins, he was the Worldwide Engineering Leader for the QSB3.3\B3.3L that had annual revenue of $250M. During this time, his team supported the doubling of production by launching manufacturing in India.
Marc has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Thermal/Fluid Science) from North Carolina State University.
