Andre Lalljie
30+ years in infrastructure
VP and founder of Proterra Energy division
VP of Development for AlphaStruxure
Led infrastructure team at Tesla Vehicle Manufacturing
Andre is a founding partner of Zero Emission Transportation Partners LLC. He specializes in charging infrastructure. Andre is also currently principal at Andre Lalljie Consulting LLC since 2021.
From 2022 to 2024, Andre was vice president of development at AlphaStruxure, and energy as a service (EaaS) company owned by Schneider Electric and the Carlyse Group. Andre identified customers, created scope, oversaw preliminary design, obtained funding for the project, negotiated terms and executed contracts. His focus was on microgrids for heavy duty fleet.
Andre’s signature project at AlphaStruxure was the Montgomery County Maryland’s EMTOC Microgrid project that provided +9MW microgrid that includes solar, battery, chargers, energy management, charge management, and power for a hydrogen electrolyzer while interfacing with the grid.
Andre was vice president at Proterra, where he founded and led the Proterra Energy business unit from 2017-2021. His team designed, installed and commissioned charging systems for transit agencies across the US and Canada. Some notable customers include Chicago Transit Authority, Edmonton Transit System, City of Los Angeles DOT, Foothill Transit, King County Metro, New York City Transit Authority, Miami-Dade Transit, Star City Metro, and Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County.
Andre and his team also created a state-of-the-art planning tool to optimize charging infrastructure for any given bus depot. This planning model considered bus types, bus routes, weather conditions, infrastructure upgrades, chargers, solar, battery storage, utility power and rates, equipment life cycles, and energy and charge management systems to determine the ideal performance and cost configuration for each depot. This modeling tool was used to receive two awards from the State of California’s Energy Commission to provide bus charging microgrids. One at LADOT for over 100 buses, and one at Santa Clara VTA for 35 buses.
Andre was director of plant facilities at Tesla from 2014-2017 where he led a team of over 100 engineers, architects, project managers, field technicians, and craft people. His team was responsible for all real estate, planning, development, design, construction and maintenance of all vehicle manufacturing spaces totaling over 7 million square feet. The team delivered close to $1 billion in capital projects under Andre’s leadership.
Andre spent 12 years with life science giant Abbott Laboratories with increasing responsibilities, beginning as project engineer and leaving as senior manager of facilities. Prior to Abbott, Andre spent 4 years on Stanford University’s facilities team as a project manager, 3 years for Hathaway Dinwiddie construction in San Francisco, and 4 years with national heavy duty contractor Peter Kiewit and Sons.
Andre has a bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.
